Product Information – Meuris Club Chair

The Meuris Club Chair, designed and manufactured by a South Australian company, is one of the only chairs on the market to have the Australian Standards Approval. Designed with therapists for therapists & carers, the Meuris Club Chair has special features putting it in a class of its own.

The Meuris Club Chair is available in three different widths, it can tilt and/or recline and be customised upon request.

This exceptional chair has a standard weight capacity of 125kg, or 160kg in the 580mm wide recliner . Removable arm rests make side transfers easy and safe for the carer, and allows for easy cleaning. Functional, ergonomically designed handles minimise injuries and a front positioned directional wheel provide the chair with predictable steering making it easy to push and maneuver. Pressure mapping has ensured total comfort and support.

Latest Innovations and Improvements

All Meuris Club Chairs are now Vehicle Transport Approved and have been Vehicle Impact Tested to meet the strict Australian Standards for safety during vehicular transport. This important feature has been extremely well received by the disability market as a large percentage of clients travel in their Club Chairs. Clients can now travel with maximum confidence for their safety.

6 inch castors are now a standard on all Meuris Club Chairs providing better performance.

In consultation with carers and therapists, ergonomic changes have been made to the handles offering OH&S benefits to the carer because of a reduction in shoulder strain.

The Meuris Explorer Club Chair is fitted with 12 ½ inch front wheels designed for easy indoor and outdoor maneuvering especially when climbing small ridges and gutters. Handbrakes have been fitted to aid in the slowing of the chair and a lever lock option acts as a park brake. Customisation is available.

Testimonial for the Meuris Club Chair

Bianca Earl passed away from Lymphoblastic Leukemia with her last few months spent largely in a Club Chair. Her sister Lachelle Earl says the chair greatly relieved Bianca’s suffering before she died. “It was awesome, we were able to take Bianca out of the Hospital in the chair ensuring she was comfortable wherever went,” she says. “It fit inside a disability Taxi and through standard door frames which meant we could visit family and friends in their homes.”

The comfort and mobility it gave Bianca inspired her family to raise funds for a new Club Chair that was donated to the Mount Gambier Hospital

LIFT/RECLINE CHAIRS

Summit Rehabilitation offer a large range of Australian made lift/recline chairs. All chairs can be customised to ensure that client needs are met. A variety of fabrics are available including Carrflex, a popular fabric choice for nursing homes and hospitals because of the following features that will benefit you.

  • Flexibility
  • Closed to Bacteria
  • Resistant to blood, urine etc
  • Fire retardant
  • Effective against MRSA
  • Gentle to the skin
Our two most popular chairs are The Menningham and The Brumby. Both chairs have been designed with input from occupational therapists and physiotherapists for the Aged Care sector resulting in chairs that are stylish and luxuriously comfortable.

The Brumby is a recliner/lift chair with numerous features ensuring ease of use and high comfort levels.

With three recline/lift positions, The Brumby has flexible positioning options for comfortable sleeping or relaxing rest. The back can be adjusted to suit individual needs including the option of lumbar support and a cushioned head rest. The Brumby is also a great space-saving option as the chair can be moved forward whilst the back remains up-right, if required.

The Menningham has a three section backrest offering excellent support to the lower, middle and upper back. Carefully selected foam on the back, seat and foot rest ensures even weight distribution to reduce pressure points. The backrest is also adjustable to meet individual needs of comfort whilst being able to cater for conditions such as scoliosis, kyphosis and arthritic conditions.

The seating system used is the highest quality foam available. For those whose pressure care needs are high, slow recovery foam can be used. All chairs come standard with locking castors for ease of moving and accessibility for cleaning.

Options available include;

  • Full customization
  • Bariatric
  • Dual motors
  • Tray
  • Rear push handle
  • Pressure reduction foam
  • A variety of fabric choices

Therapist’s Corner

Suggestions that may reduce manual handling effort when using the larger gerontic chairs:

The term ‘gerontic chair’ is used as a general term to describe the large, mobile comfort chars that are used in the aged care sector – these suggestions may not be applicable to all chairs.

- Reclining and raising the back of the chair

  • Use bodyweight to recline/raise the back of the chair by placing your elbow and forearm on the top of the chair
  • Avoid holding both handles and pulling the back of the chair down – this may contribute to shoulder strain

- Pushing and turning the chair

  • Recline the chair and position your arms at the side of the chair ‘wings’ – your bodyweight can be used to push and turn the chair
  • The upright position may be required when turning in confined areas
  • Use directional castors for long, straight walking

- Positioning the older person in the chair

  • Generally easier if the chair is reclined and the lifter brought in from the side – this enables the person to be positioned well back in the seat
  • A lifter sling may be left in place for some people – the need for this should be assessed by a physiotherapist or occupational therapist
  • There is less risk of the person sliding in the chair if footplates are adjusted to provide support, and if the chair is left in a slightly reclined position
